RoHS-Compliant Policy
UMC is committed to meeting the European Commission environmental directives (RoHS Directives 2002/95/EC & 2002/96/EC) related to electrical and electronic components and products. These directives require a number of potentially hazardous substances to be phased out by July, 2006.
This RoHS compliant plan includes the following:
-
Qualification of the different platforms to mitigate the risk of introducing new failure modes with this conversion. (For example: tin whisker, solder joint reliability, solderability issues, etc.)
-
New design/purchasing guidelines to integrate these new requirements.
-
A special marking on component package and packaging to identify RoHS compliant products. (-G suffix)
